Deepend Movies' autumn drama takes the widest simultaneous release in the group's history, with every Deepend Cinema location running extended-format prints for the opening fortnight.

The Salt Road opens this Friday across six markets, supported by a 214-screen rollout that Deepend Movies describes as the widest simultaneous release in the group's history.

Every Deepend Cinema location will run extended-format prints for the opening fortnight, with matinee screenings at reduced capacity to keep halls at a comfortable density for the first sessions of each day.

The film follows two sisters who set out to carry out a funeral request that neither of them wants to honour. Director N. Mokoena called the production "a road movie in the oldest sense — two people, one direction, and a great deal to say on the way."

Deepend Movies is running its release marketing on the ground rather than through national buys, with street-level activity concentrated in the cities that screened the trailers earliest.
